I have been working at the hotel for almost 4 months now. When I was first hired, I was working any market other than social along with detailing all of our conference service groups. However one week after I started, I was thrown a curve ball. The owner decided to eliminate the Social Catering Manager and guess who was taking on that roll? That’s right. Me!
Now don’t get me wrong, I love the social marktet, probably a little too much. Weddings have been my passion for a number of years now. I remember being in a Sales class in college and the professor was asking us all what we wanted to do when we entered into the hospitality world and one of classmates wanted to be a Wedding Planner. How come that had never occured to me before? Once I heard, I knew that’s exactly what I want to do.
Long story short, I was the Social Catering Manager at my last hotel for almost 2 years then went into Sales, discovered that I hated it because my passion is that social market.
So when I learned that I was going back into the social market, I was very excited. However I would still have all of the other markets plus conference services, normally there are 3 people in a Catering Office to cover this. But in my office, there’s just me.
Again, to make a long story short, I’ve been a wedding booking machine and now I am 4 days away from October, my busiest month. I have 9 weddings over the span of 3 and 1/2 weeks. 11 social events if you want to include a 50th Anniversary and a 95th Birthday Party. We’ll see if I make it out alive!
